Russia has successfully put into orbit a new geostationary satellite, Elektro-L No. 5, equipped with advanced remote sensing instruments. The satellite is now operational at an altitude of approximately 36,000 km and will strengthen the countrys Earth observation and weather monitoring capabilities.
